The author proposes to expand the scope of AAC toward "social" beyond text-entry for a basic communication medium. In the icon-based AAC area, a wide range of studies have been done spanning from the standardization of icons to various software and hardware devices. The author found new ways to expand the possibilities of AAC by directly connecting the AAC system with social tools. The iconChat is a first step. The abstract is rather hard to understand, but the overall problem statement is clear, and the basic approach in Section 4 is also clear. The clear next challenge is the design of a new social tool by fully utilizing the AAC capabilities. This is a challenging and worthy topic and I'm looking forward to seeing the results in a W4A conference.
